How it works in a nutshell

Search Accounts has undergone a major update to align it with Search People. You can keep using all your saved search lists in the new screen. What has been changed?

  1. In addition to account search fields and account features, you can now also use contact search fields and person features. You can also search by text.
  2. You can use field sets to tailor the fields to be selected in these search criteria to your organization. To configure field sets, go to Setup, Custom Settings, Columns, Filter and Custom Label Settings.
  3. The result is always a list of Accounts, Contacts or a combination of both. You can set your preference at the top left of the page. Selecting the Accounts overview lets you choose whether to show the subsidiaries of your search results. This lets you spot other relevant accounts at a glance that you would otherwise have missed based on your search results. In this view, as well as in the combined Account & Contact view, you can choose to expand and collapse the results.
  4. You can now define your own action buttons. We've already created the two existing buttons from the old Search Account screen for you. You can also create your own action buttons, e.g. to send an e-mail or record an activity using a screen flow.
  5. To create new actions, go to the Search Accounts Action Settings. Choose the view and record types for which you want the button to be visible. You can also choose whether to allow multiple selections. For controlling flows, you can set the input variable to the AccountId, the ContactId or both variables. If you choose to use both input variables, make sure you also create both as variables in your flow.
  6. You can still only send e-mails to contacts, so if your search only returns accounts, sending an e-mail to the selected search results will trigger a notification.

The current Search Accounts feature lets you click on the link to open the new page. During installation, we added a new permissions set for Search Account to all active users so that they can start using the new page immediately.

In the next release, we will permanently replace the current Search accounts with the new Search Accounts page.

Setup

  • For this feature, administrators need to be given read and write rights for the new Search Accounts Action Settings object. Add this as a tab. This lets you create new actions.
  • Users must be given read and write rights for the new Last Used Search Account Dropdown field (msf__Last_Used_Search_Account_Dropdown__c) in the user object in order to save most recently used subject.
