More Space for Public Groups in Workflows

Manage complex workflows more easily by adding multiple or longer public group names. F105234 | 2026-04

Introduction

Previously, the number of characters for specifying public groups in workflow definition metadata was limited to 100 characters. This was a limitation when using long group names or when multiple groups needed to be added to a workflow. This update significantly reduces this restriction, providing more flexibility when setting up complex processes.

Who is this feature relevant for?

  • Application administrators
  • System administrators

Benefits at a glance

  • More flexibility when naming public groups
  • Ability to add multiple public groups to a single workflow definition
  • Fewer restrictions when setting up extensive workflow authorisations

Feature explanation

In the configuration of workflow definitions, public groups can be assigned to control specific actions or authorisations. The field used for this, msf__Public_Groups__c, has been expanded from 100 to 255 characters.

This expansion allows administrators to use longer, more descriptive names for public groups without any issues. The additional space also makes it possible to list multiple groups in the same field, which previously often did not fit due to the strict character limit. This enables a more efficient configuration of workflow metadata within the MSR environment.

Set-up / Implementation time

This change is available immediately after the release; no additional configuration is required for existing workflows, but administrators can now immediately take advantage of the extra character space.
